Sometimes time just seems to run away. Halloween has come and gone, as has the day of remembrance for the destruction of Parihaka. Instead of focussing on new creations for Library Graphics, my mind has been busy with little 'recycled books' projects (more to come later).
As part of Chinese Language Week, in October, we spent a few weeks creating a massive version of the traditional craft of Chinese Block Printing/Paper Cutting. Selecting a lotus image (representing rebirth and creation) a scaled-up version was created using a photocopier, pencils, cardboard and what seemed like hours of cutting with a craft blade! The cut image then received four layers of paper mache to harden it up, finally painted and then displayed on our large windows.
Created quite a buzz and a lot of smiles.
